I enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and proudly served for five years at the Navy Regional Data Automation Center in Norfolk, VA. I met my husband earned my bachelor's degree while serving. Upon separation from the Navy I returned to Illinois to complete my master's degree. My family then moved to Sacramento, CA. Since my ALS diagnosis in May 2013 I've medically retired as a public school administrator. I am very grateful for the Veterans Administration for the services provided. I struggle daily to complete basic living tasks but I am not defined by my illness. I am hopeful for a cure.
