Celebrities and People with ALS Launch #VoiceYourLove Social Media Campaign

Courteney Cox and Renée Zellweger join TRON CEO Justin Sun in campaign to honor those living with ALS who have lost their ability to speak

Washington, D.C. (February 11, 2019) — Celebrities, people living with ALS and two giants from the Silicon Valley software and blockchain industries are challenging the public to say “I love you” in a new social media campaign that’s raising awareness and support for people living with ALS. The #VoiceYourLove campaign, launched today, asks people to create and share video ‘selfies’ expressing love and affection for the people that are meaningful in their lives.

The campaign honors those with ALS, including celebrity publicist Nanci Ryder, along with their families, friends, and caregivers. Actors Renee Zellweger and Courteney Cox are among the first celebrities to join the campaign, which is sponsored by The ALS Association and TRON/BitTorrent. TRON Founder and CEO, Justin Sun has already donated $250,000 to the campaign.

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Over the course of the disease, people living with ALS lose the ability to move, to speak, and eventually, to breathe. ALS is always fatal, usually within two to five years of diagnosis.

“I’m really excited about this campaign,” said Cox. “I think it’s so important for all of us who have voices to use them to share that love and bring awareness to ALS – and use the voice for the ALS community.”

“Families of people living with ALS often tell us that losing the ability to speak is one of the most emotionally devastating aspects of the disease,” said Calaneet Balas, president and CEO of The ALS Association. “The #VoiceYourLove campaign features five amazing people with ALS and their families who want to create a better understanding of ALS and how it impacts families. We want the public to think about what it would be like to lose the ability to say, ‘I love you’ to the people at the center of their world.”

“We all kind of take for granted that we can tell the people that we love how we feel all the time,” said Zellweger. “But we all have people that we should be saying, ‘I love you’ to.”

To #VoiceYourLove, The ALS Association asks you to follow three simple steps:

  1. Using your phone or tablet, tell the world who or what you love most in the world and mention that you’re voicing your love in honor of those with ALS.
  2. Post your video to your favorite social media channels with the hashtag #VoiceYourLove
  3. Tag your friends and encourage them to join you in the #VoiceYourLove campaign

With BitTorrent and TRON, who bring the power of their 100 million global users to the campaign, The ALS Association has created a website at www.voiceyourlove.org with instructions, sample videos, and testimonial videos from families impacted by ALS who describe their journey.

TRON CEO Justin Sun has pledged $250,000 to support the campaign and issued a challenge to the greater Silicon Valley community to match his gift. TRON is also encouraging its userbase to donate to The ALS Association using TRX cryptocurrency. TRON partner Binance Charity Foundation has also pledged an additional $150,000 in support of the campaign and invites all interested participants to donate with cryptocurrencies through its blockchain-powered donation platform: www.binance.charity.
