FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Quantum® Rehab Continues National Partnership with The ALS Association

Washington, D.C. (May 30, 2017) — Quantum Rehab, a global manufacturer of complex rehab power wheelchairs, announced its continued support of The ALS Association as a national partner and serve individuals affected by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and their families. This marks the fifth year of the partnership.

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Eventually, people with ALS lose the ability to initiate and control muscle movement, which often leads to total paralysis and death within two to five years of diagnosis. For unknown reasons, veterans are twice as likely to develop ALS as the general population. There is no cure, and only one drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) modestly extends survival.

“Quantum has been and continues to be an important partner to The Association, providing support to all of our 39 chapters,” said ALS Association President and CEO Barbara Newhouse. “Their support enables us to serve the mobility needs of those living with ALS.”

As a national partner, Quantum supports key ALS Association events, including the Walk to Defeat ALS®. Since 2000, Walk events across the country have raised more than $266 million to support the vision of The ALS Association. In addition to local support, Quantum will also be partnering with The ALS Association for the 2017 National ALS Advocacy Conference in May. This conference brings together advocates nationwide and from throughout the ALS community to once again prove the power of their stories in influencing legislators in the fight against ALS on Capitol Hill. The month of May also serves as both ALS Awareness Month and National Mobility Awareness Month.

“It’s truly our honor to support The ALS Association and the amazing work it accomplishes through its local chapters across the country,” said Megan Kutch, M.S., OTR, Director, Quantum Product Marketing. “Our missions toward serving those living with ALS align, and we whole-heartedly support the quality-of-life programs and the research directed and funded by The ALS Association.”
