Permobil Continues National Partnership with The ALS Association

Washington, D.C., (April 26, 2018) — Permobil, the world’s leading manufacturer of power wheelchairs, and the Permobil Foundation has once again joined forces with The ALS Association as a National-Level Partner to offer support and enhance the quality of life for individuals impacted by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Eventually, people with ALS lose the ability to initiate and control muscle movement, which often leads to total paralysis and death within two to five years of diagnosis. There is no cure.

"Our ongoing support of The ALS Association is unfaltering, as is their fight to find a cure for this devastating disease," said Larry Jackson, President of Permobil, Inc. "Last year we started our philanthropic branch, the Permobil Foundation, to provide additional support to our nonprofit partners and customers, and we encourage others to get involved in this great cause as well and to participate in a Walk in their local area."

Through this partnership, the Permobil Foundation will support the Association through their efforts in local Walk to Defeat ALS events across the country. Since 2000, Walk events have raised more than $293 million to support the vision of The ALS Association.

"We’re proud to renew our long-term partnership with Permobil. Their past support has helped us make strides in our fight against ALS, and their renewed commitment is key keep to keeping the momentum going forward," said Calaneet Balas, president and CEO of The ALS Association.

In addition, Permobil will be joining forces with The Association at the 2018 National ALS Advocacy Conference in May to advocate on Capitol Hill for the ALS Community. This is the single largest annual gathering of the entire ALS community in the country, including people living with ALS and their families, care services professionals, chapter executives, and ALS clinicians and researchers. Permobil will also support the 2018 ALS Clinical Conference.

"On March 1, 2017, we launched the Permobil Foundation in an effort to enhance and build more impactful partnerships with our non-profit partners to better fulfill a life of independence for our customers and for our ALS customers we take this a step further to give them the life they deserve," said Ashley Davis, Executive Director of Permobil Foundation.
