FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Permobil Continues National Partnership with The ALS Association

Washington, D.C. (May 30, 2017) — Permobil, the world’s leading manufacturer of power wheelchairs, has once again joined forces with The ALS Association as a National-Level Partner to offer support and enhance the quality of life for individuals impacted by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Eventually, people with ALS lose the ability to initiate and control muscle movement, which often leads to total paralysis and death within two to five years of diagnosis. There is no cure, and only one drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) modestly extends survival.

“Our ongoing support of The ALS Association is unfaltering, as is their fight to find a cure for this devastating disease,” said Larry Jackson, President of Permobil, Inc. “We just started our philanthropic branch, the Permobil Foundation, to provide additional support to our non-profit partners and we encourage others to get involved in this great cause as well and to participate in a Walk in their local area.”

Through this partnership, the Permobil Foundation will support The Association through their efforts in local Walk to Defeat ALS® events across the country. Since 2000, Walk events across the country have raised more than $275 million to support the vision of The ALS Association.

“Permobil has been and continues to be a significant partner to The Association,” said ALS Association President and CEO Barbara Newhouse. “Their support enables us to serve the mobility needs of those living with ALS.”

In addition, Permobil will be joining forces with The Association at the 2017 National ALS Advocacy Conference in May to advocate on Capitol Hill for the ALS Community. This is the single largest annual gathering of the entire ALS community in the country, with at least 1,000 advocates attending, highlighted by more than 100 people living with ALS and their families, care services professionals, chapter executives, and ALS clinicians and researchers.

“This March we launched the Permobil Foundation in an effort to enhance and build more impactful partnerships with our non-profit partners to better fulfill a life of independence for our customers and support local chapters as well as national organizations,” said Ashley Davis, Executive Director of Permobil Foundation.
