Additional Statement from the ALS Association Regarding Recent Board of Trustees Meeting

November 4, 2014

We've received some questions since we issued our 10/31 press release on the Board of Trustees meeting in Denver. The board meeting was focused on giving the national staff direction around the size of the budget and the priorities going forward. It was not about the details of which specific programs to fund. The national staff is now working under that direction to plan a 5-year program that fits within the criteria specified – nearly doubling the normal budget per year before the Ice Bucket Challenge, and more than tripling the amount we previously spent on research on an annual basis. The $21.7M already approved was consistent with that direction, but it will take some time to flesh-out the 5-year plan with more specificity.
