Come Make Your Next Step Count at the 2014 Walk to Defeat ALS®!

August 1, 2014
Fall walk season begins

The ability to walk is something you never really think about until it's gone. One foot falls in front of the other, and suddenly you're there. You just take it for granted as one of life's givens. Much like your ability to hold a small child in your arms or reach out and take a loved one by the hand....

But every 90 minutes, the aspect of losing mobility becomes all too much of a reality for another person diagnosed with ALS. This year, we'd like to invite you to make your next step count by joining hundreds of thousands of others for the 2014 “Walk Season” in a location near you.

ALS is sometimes associated with powerlessness — both for those living with the disease and their loved ones who must stand by as the disease slowly takes away the ability to walk, talk, eat and eventually breathe.

The Walk to Defeat ALS is a nationwide event that gives both the community and those living with Lou Gehrig's Disease a chance to fight back by coming together to raise awareness and money to support local care services programs, public policy endeavors and scientific research to discover new treatments and hopefully, one day, a cure.

You can make a difference! During the last 14 years, we've registered more than two million Walk participants and have raised more than $190 million, all of which has gone to aid research and development in the courageous battle against ALS.

Our goal for 2014 is to raise $25 million, and we're already more than a third of the way there! Are you ready to help us go the distance? We truly believe the cure for ALS is out there somewhere, just waiting to be discovered. We may not know exactly where our destination lies, but with every single footstep, we get that much closer.

Whether you're one person or a hundred, you can help us by going to: http://web.alsa.org/site/PageServer?pagename=WLK_landing#.U80-WY1dXBg,
where you can donate or search by state or ZIP code to locate the next ALS Walk near you. You don't have to have a team to sign up – we're all in this together, and every individual's effort builds on our momentum and drives us forward toward a better future.

Also, be sure to download the ALS Walk app to your phone so you can upload photos, connect with Facebook, check fundraising progress, automate follow-ups to donors, and register for the Walk of your choice.

See you on the road!
