Major and Minor League Baseball Teams Continue to Support The ALS Association and Its Chapters in Spreading ALS Awareness

This baseball season, ALS awareness continued in both Major and Minor League ball parks across the country. To recognize the 75th Anniversary of Lou Gehrig’s famous farewell speech to baseball, Major League Baseball broadcast a PSA on Jumbotrons across the U.S. The History® channel created this PSA, which underscored Gehrig’s successful career, inspirational message, and the need to fund ALS research. In addition, MLB placed the spotlight on ALS awareness prior to the second game of the World Series when they honored Pete Frates, the former Boston College Baseball captain, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2012. MLB recognized Frates’ pivotal role in making the Ice Bucket Challenge go viral in this video.

Both Major and Minor League teams pledged their support to The Association’s chapters’ efforts to raise awareness of this disease in their communities throughout the season as demonstrated in these photos.
