Conference Logo 2009The ALS Association holds its annual ALS Clinical Management Conference to help health care providers further their education of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) through workshops, panel discussion, and networking opportunities with other health care professionals. This three-day conference explores the science and research of ALS; avenues of social support for people living with ALS, as well as their family members and caregivers; quality of life; and pulmonary care. 

Conference objectives:

  • Attendees will gain foundational information about ALS, including what is known regarding its etiology, symptoms, course, systemic implications, and medical issues.
  • Attendees will be exposed to the myriad impact of an ALS diagnosis on daily living, including implications for relationships, decision making, and end of life issues.
  • Attendees will be provided with practical tips for understanding the benefits of supportive technologies and equipment, assessing need, and making appropriate recommendations.  
  • Attendees will be provided with information regarding the multiple issues which face professional staff due to the daily challenge of working with a population that is experiencing a deteriorous disease progression, including discussion of professional boundaries, self-care, and stress management.
