I Admire Her StrengthJane M. Hicksville, New York
I do not have ALS and until recently, I knew very little about it. A very dear friend whom I met when we were 14 years old (we are both now 71) was diagnosed with ALS. Our world had changed! My friend, Fran, has a wonderful family who have supported her both physically and emotionally since that terrible day. I have researched every avenue I could to find some kind of treatment or cure and quickly found out there is virtually nothing available to stop this disease from spreading. Although she has the best doctors available, the disease is rapidly progressing. Fran has maintained her sense of humor, her concern for other people that she always had. She never feels sorry for herself, and she is still the best mother, grandmother and friend anyone could ever ask for. I admire her strength, and she inspires me to be a better person. To all the people out there who are fighting this terrible disease, God Bless You.
