The ALS Association Help Find A Cure

Quarterly Grant Program Initiated to Offset Medical Costs

Northern Ohio Chapter

Serving people living with ALS in: Northern Ohio

Thanks to generous Ice Bucket Challenge contributions, The ALS Association Northern Ohio Chapter has been able to expedite its strategic plan by launching and fully funding several new Care Services programs.

First, the chapter will launch its ALS Care Grant Program to provide grants up to $500 per quarter to persons living with ALS in the region. These grants will help offset medical expenses typically not covered by insurance. The chapter has also partnered with a local art therapy provider to deliver art therapy programs during patient and caregiver support group meetings, as well as one-on-one crisis intervention sessions. Next year, the chapter will introduce an art therapy summer camp program for minor age children/grandchildren of persons living with ALS.

Additionally, the chapter has implemented staffing changes to ensure that all patient services are delivered in a timely and efficient manner, and has partnered with a durable medical supply company to provide delivery, safe set up, and training for medical devices not covered by insurance. The chapter has retained contracted staff to assist with physical therapy and speech device implementation after insurance therapy caps have been reached.
