The ALS Association Connecticut Chapter was able to double the budget for its Care Services Programs as a result of the Ice Bucket Challenge. This has increased the chapter’s ability to reimburse people with ALS for the cost for handicap accessible transportation, provide grants for home modifications, and offer respites for caregivers. Additionally, the Chapter introduced Online Support Groups for patients and caregivers, which allow these individuals to receive counseling without having to leave their homes. The groups also allow patients to use their speech generating devices to communicate with others.
