ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Progress

New Clinic Established to Serve Patients

Texas Chapter

Serving people living with ALS in: Texas

The influx of donations from the Ice Bucket Challenge has allowed The ALS Association Texas Chapter to nearly double its budget for programs and services to ALS patients. The chapter was able to launch a General Grants Program, providing direct financial assistance to help families supplement the costs of medical and respite care, medical equipment and supplies, transportation to and from doctor visits and ALS clinics, and other disease-related expenses.

The additional resources also ensured that the chapter could maintain its financial support of the ALS multi-disciplinary clinics in Houston and San Antonio, and even fund a new clinic in Austin. The chapter’s Equipment Loan program received a much needed boost, with the chapter being able to replace outdated and broken equipment as well as increase its inventory of medical equipment available to clients. Lastly, the chapter was able to fund an additional Case Manager position to help serve the burgeoning client population in the north Texas area.
