Covering All the Bases

Lou Gehrig quote

When Lou Gehrig spoke those words on July 4, 1939 at Yankee Stadium™, America became painfully aware of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Lou's baseball career and his life, shortened by the disease that would ultimately bear his name, was filled with awe-inspiring courage, unselfishness and gratitude in everything he did. On July 4, 2009, the 70th Anniversary of Lou Gehrig's "Luckiest Man" speech, Major League Baseball and its 30 Clubs joined together for the launch of 4ALS, a League-wide effort to raise awareness and support for the fight against ALS. To continue baseball's longstanding commitment to ALS awareness, Major League Baseball is renewing the 4ALS initiative for the 2011 season. You can be a part of this ongoing initiative by registering now to participate in the Covering All the Bases® Hitting Challenge.
