Ralph Covington, Jr.

Branch: Navy
Served: 1966 - 1969
Hometown: Pittsburgh, PA
I served in the Navy in Vietnam. I first knew there was a problem while climbing up a ladder at my job. When I got to the top rung, I froze and was unable to move. A few moments passed and I was able to climb back down. This happened again on my staircase at home and I knew I needed to see a doctor. After a long period of time conducting many tests, I was diagnosed with ALS. I was terrified, reading that I only had a couple of years to live. I have had ALS for 10 years. I am the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren.
