Our dad served in the Navy's 1st Reg., 5th Batl., Co. 1113. He served on the USS Y.M.S. 239 and the USS Koiner, D.E. 331. He commented that the Navy was the "best steady job he ever had" and had the "best chow he'd ever eaten". He also stated that it was "a grand service and he met a swell bunch of fellows". Diagnosed with ALS near Memorial Day, 1989, after a courageous 13 months, had enough and passed unto his Lord and Savior on 8/12/90. An avid golfer, his family has raised more than a million dollars for the St. Peters ALS Ctr of Albany, NY through their annual Memorial Golf Open in his name.
