Linda McFarland

Branch: Navy
Served: 1969 - 1992
Hometown: Fredericksburg, IA
Written by: Linda McFarland , self
I was in the Navy Nurse Corps, stationed stateside for two years, October 1969-October 1971 at the St Albans Naval Hospital, in Queens, NY. I remained in the Reserves in the Midwest for another 20 years. No combat zones, no chemical exposure, one of those unknown causes led to my developing ALS. After starting symptoms in fall of 2008, my diagnosis came in the fall of 2010. Disease process is slow moving, I am functioning well with one leg brace and a walker, though I am starting to have involvement in both hands. I am doing what I can, while I can.
