Branch: Navy
Served: 1944 - 1946
Hometown: Stratford, CT
Written by: Andy Byrne , friend
I served in Okinawa and Guam as a storekeeper, providing supplies for the Naval Air Transport. I retired in 1985 from corporate marketing and advertising, but continued my “career” of volunteering for a wide variety of organizations. I love meeting people and I believe in the power of making a difference in others' lives. I’m proud to have been named Connecticut Volunteer of the Year. I was diagnosed with ALS in 2008,and my family and friends are a great support. I'm lucky to have had 88 good years. Now I take it as it comes, but I do miss volunteering. And I believe an ALS cure will come.
