My dad, Robert Matsumoto, was a West Point graduate and a member of the 101st Airborn Division. After returning from his tour of duty in Korea, he received his captain's bars. Soon afterward, he married my mother and resigned his commission to pursue a long and successful career as a real estate developer. In 2006 my dad was diagnosed with ALS, and after a valiant struggle, he passed away in February 2009. What I will remember about his illness is how he never gave up, never complained once, and always had a positive attitude.
