Vaughn R. Axling

Branch: Army
Served: 1988 - 1991
Hometown: Tacoma, WA
Written by: Sarah Axling , Spouse
While in the ARMY Vaughn was an M-1 Abrams hull mechanic with rank of E-4. He served in Dessert Storm/Dessert Shield in 1990; he was attached to the 3rd Armored Division and was honorably discharged in 1991 when the military downsized. In 2010 he was diagnosed with ALS. Vaughn is no longer able to work as an Auto Tech, as his arms and hands lack the strength. We consider ourselves lucky because his progression is very slow; we know that others are not so lucky. I am proud of my husband’s service to this country and of the grace he has shown in his battle with ALS.
