Col. Jay W. Chambers Jr. was diagnosed with ALS in February 2006. Jay's symptoms started when he was a Brigade Commander at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He was unable to finish his command because of this insidious and deadly disease. On September 30, 2007, Jay was medically retired from the United States Army after serving the nation without reservation, and deploying in harm's way, for well over 26 years. For over four years Jay, his wife and their five Children struggled daily with the debilitating effects of this disease. Jay passed away April 26,2010. He will be forever loved and missed.
