I was recently diagnosed with ALS at the age of 65. My military service was spent in the Kansas Army National Guard, 169th Ord. Co. Our unit was located at Phillipsburg, Kansas, where I served as a communications specialist and ammunition inspector. I am obviously in the early stages and have not yet experienced the full ramifications of this disease. I am beginning to realize the things I will not be able to do with my family and friends. Especially missed will be the trips to visit my grandchildren, who live a long distance away, because I feel travel will become impossible at some point.
