Jane H. Gilbert is president and chief executive officer of The ALS Association, the only non-profit organization in the United States fighting the progressive, neurodegenerative disease ALS on every front.

A widely respected leader who is accomplished in fundraising, operations and strategic planning, Gilbert oversees The Association’s activities in research, advocacy, finance, development, community services, patient services, communications and operations.  Gilbert also is responsible for the strategic direction of the organization, which directs the largest privately-funded research program into ALS. In addition, she oversees The Association’s national network of chapters that deliver an array of services to people living with ALS.

Prior to joining The ALS Association in 2009, Gilbert held several professional positions at the American Red Cross over nearly a decade.  She was senior vice president for chapter operations for the Red Cross in Washington, D.C., from 2005 to 2008.  In this role, Gilbert held responsibility for the nationwide management of 760 chapters in eight service areas and led a professional team of more than 350 full-time employees.

She also served as service area executive for the Mid-Atlantic Region; chief executive officer of the Hartford, Conn. Chapter and deputy director of the Omaha, Neb. Chapter.

Before the American Red Cross, she was the director of development for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Omaha.

Gilbert holds a master’s degree in business from the University of Nebraska and a bachelor’s degree in communications and speech from Southern Methodist University in Texas.
