Edmund G. McCurtain II
Edmund G. McCurtain II, a former vice president of worldwide marketing and sales, became a member of the ALS Association Board of Trustees in 2006. His global perspective on communications is a valuable asset to the organization in increasing awareness of ALS. His extensive background as an executive in the highly competitive international computer arena also is a significant resource for the Board of Trustees.
McCurtain has been involved in the fight against ALS since his father was diagnosed with the disease in 1980.
He is passionate about finding treatments and a cure for ALS as a tribute to the memory of his father, who passed away in 1984 – this would represent poetic justice for McCurtain, a supporter of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, because ALS gives no rhyme or reason for why and when it strikes.
Born in Washington, D.C. and raised in the Midwest, McCurtain started his career at IBM as a systems engineer. He then spent 8-l/2 years with Scientific Data Systems (formerly Xerox Data Systems). In 1975, he moved to California to work with start-up companies such as LynuxWorks, Optivision and Plexus Computer.
McCurtain earned a BA in communications from Drury University. Single, he lives in Boulder Creek, Calif., and also supports the Oak Grove School in Ojai, Calif.
