Daniel de Grandpre
Mr. de Grandpre, referred by the Alabama Chapter and nominated by the Board Development and Nominating Committee is the CEO and co-founder of dealnews.com, Inc., based in Huntsville, AL, with an office in New York City. dealnews is one of the 1,000 most-visited web sites in the world. Over three million people each month come to dealnews to find "news on deals" for electronics, apparel, and other consumer goods. In 2009, over $400M worth of merchandise was purchased via dealnews from its partners, which include Apple, HP, Walmart, Amazon, and over a thousand other retailers. Dan has grown the company from a "garage startup" to its current size, employing a staff of over 40 professionals.
dealnews uses its popularity not only to sell products, but also to help raise money for non-profit causes in need. In the aftermath of the 2004 Indonesian Tsunami, dealnews and its readers raised $10,000 for the Red Cross for humanitarian relief. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, dealnews once again rallied its readers and raised $100,000 for the Red Cross’ relief efforts. And this year, dealnews raised $100,000 for the Red Cross in response to the Haitian earthquake disaster. In each case, dealnews matched its readers’ donations dollar for dollar.
dealnews has also been a regular corporate sponsor for other worthy non-profit causes, including The ALS Association’s Alabama and New York Chapters, Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition (a no-kill shelter), The Riley Behavioral & Educational Center (Autism), and the Greengate School for Dyslexia.
