In July 2001, Connie Houston’s father was diagnosed with ALS. He was only 65 years old and had a fatal disease that has no known cause, treatment or cure. “I have always been a person who is action oriented and the challenge for me was there was only so much I could do to help dad physically and emotionally,” said Houston. She went online and found out about The ALS Association Kentucky Chapter and started volunteering in 2002. In 2003, she was asked to join the chapter’s board.

In late December 2004, she made a promise to her father that she would do whatever she could to help with the fight against ALS by helping to find a cause and cure. Houston’s father passed away on January 3, 2005; she has worked diligently to keep her promise.

In late January 2005, Houston began serving her first of two separate terms as president of the Kentucky Chapter; the second term ended January 2013. She has been involved with advocacy and public policy initiatives at a national level since 2005 and traveled to Washington D.C. for the National Public Policy Conference meetings and the winter Fly-Ins.

Currently, Houston serves on the Board of Representatives as the voting member for the Kentucky Chapter and serves on the Public Policy Committee. Previously, she participated in the Partnership for Growth Task Force.

Houston has more than 23 years in the quick service restaurant industry with increasing levels of responsibilities. Areas of experience include internal audit, financial accounting, cash management and treasury, SOX internal controls, and financial systems. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Finance from the University of Louisville.
