Phyllis R. Brourman, Esq.

Attorney Phyllis Brourman has been a member of The ALS Association National Board of Trustees since 1999 and believes ALS patients have suffered enough and that justice will not be served until the disease is banished forever.

The graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and Loyola University Law School first became involved with The Association in 1997 when her son, Dr. Neil Brourman, was diagnosed with ALS. The family established The Neil Brourman, M.D. ALS Research Fund of The ALS Association to help all ALS patients and achieve The Association’s ultimate goal of nothing less than the eradication of the disease. The fund has grown to more than $1 million and grants have been awarded to experts representing a wide variety of exploration, including stem cell and gene research.

“Our family will not give up the fight for a cure for Neil and the 30,000 others battling ALS,” said Brourman, whose husband, Harold Brourman, also is a physician.

Brourman is proud that as a member of the Board she has participated in identifying and funding “cutting edge” research and has helped keep hope alive. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the family law specialist believes that a cure is within reach.

“We are extremely inspired by the dedication of researchers the world over. As they continue their work, we hope that a cure will come as quickly as possible to aid Neil and the thousands of others stricken with this disease," said Brourman. “Even as we recognize the tremendous accomplishments, we realize we must not ease up on our efforts.”

According to Brourman, her son remained positive, retained his spirit and zeal for living and maintained his passion to finding treatment options and a cure while he battled the disease. “When he was diagnosed, Neil expressed confidence that there will be a cure and that even if the cure is not found in his lifetime, anything that we do will help bring us closer to the day when this disease no longer exists.”

The Brourmans live in Beverly Hills and have two other children, Debi and Steve, and five grandchildren.
