Miss My Grandfather Every Day

Brittany P. Clayton, Delaware

My grandfather used to use our names during speech therapy because he wanted to practice being able to say them as long as he could. His last words to my mom were "I just wanted to watch her grow up." I loved that man with my whole heart, but it wasn't enough to get him through the painful and discouraging battle he fought. All we could do was watch his motor skills fade away as my mom helped him get from chair to chair by dancing across the room with him in her arms while standing on her feet. He passed away just a few months after being diagnosed, but I miss him every single day.
