Missing My Loving Wife, Kenni

Mike S. Washougal, Washington

My loving wife of 43 years lost her battle with ALS in May 2011. Kenni was diagnosed in May of 2009. At that time I had no clue about what ALS was. It was the Oregon/Washington Chapter of the ALS Association that helped us greatly in meeting Kenni's and the family needs through this tough period. One important thing that I gained was a compassion for people who are sick and stuck with life changing events beyond their control. Unlike many people with ALS, Kenni had lost hope. She totally gave into the disease and accepted her fate. She rarely complained and accepted living with ALS gracefully. I admire her for this kind of strength and resolve. Dearest Kenni, Let it not be death but completeness, Let love melt into memory and pain into songs, Let the fight end in the folding of your wings over your family nest, Let the last touch of your hands be gentle like the flower of the night, Stand still O beautiful Kenni for a moment and say your last words in silence, I bow to you Kenni and hold up my lamp to light you on your way!
