My Grandmother Is My Hero

Samantha K. Deland, Florida

My name is Samantha, I'm 29 years old and a single mother of two. I am raising money for my grandma and grandpa. My grandmother has been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease for 7 years now. She's a fighter none the less. My grandmother is my HERO, she has always been my best friend, and she is someone who I love more than anything. I even had my daughter that is now 6 on her birthday. My grandma has always been the center of our family. She is what always brought our family together. Recently, I feel it has been falling apart. My grandfather has been diagnosed with dementia. He is unable to care for my grandmother, and he is fading just as fast as she is. He is also my other hero, My dad died when I was 2. He stepped up and became not only my grandfather but my father. When I was 10 he had a heart attack and a stroke. He had to have a quadruple bypass. The doctors said if you can make it up these stairs you can go home. He made it up those stairs and went home later that day. It was a week in the hospital. When get got home he didn't rest because he was the only one working. He has always made a living for his family and is the hardest working man I have ever known. So now, he's unable to provide for his family. The wife he has loved and cared for, for 56 years, is now dying, and he can't do anything about it. I think that hurts him, and he's a very prideful man. They love each other very much and to watch the other one slowly get worse and worse hurts both of them. I want to help raise awareness to both of these terrible diseases. The money that is raised will help take care of them get the proper care they need. Please help our family it is really needed. Thank you for your time and reading.
